Our Mission

The mission of ACDC is to create new, affordable, housing opportunities for rent and purchase by low-income residents who make up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). In pursuit of this mission, our work encompasses the following steps:

  • First, we raise funds to acquire a small, distressed, market-rate apartment building and organize the existing tenants to immediately empower them with their own tenants' association.

  • Second, we rehabilitate the property to a beautiful, like-new status that is both habitable by today's standards and dignified by the standards of the existing residents.

  • Third, we subsidize the property through tax credits and other affordable housing grant programs.

  • Fourth, we transfer ownership of the property by converting it from affordable apartments for rent to affordable condos for purchase, giving the existing tenants a right of first refusal.

Our Vision

The 10-year vision of ACDC is to create an entire tranche of truly affordable condos in Aurora. This will help to both reduce poverty and create generational wealth among Aurora's low-income households, all while avoiding resident displacement and gentrification. We have the potential to transform Aurora's existing eyesore properties into eye candy in a way that has a positive, ripple effect throughout the surrounding communities.
